Sri Lanka is an island nation located in the Indian Ocean, just off the southeastern coast of India. Despite its modest size – slightly larger than the state of West Virginia – Sri Lanka has a population of about 20 million people, almost equal to the population of Texas. The island is rich in natural resources, and has a diverse economy based on agriculture, mining, fishing, manufacturing, and tourism. On becoming an independent nation in 1948 Sri Lanka (formerly called Ceylon) seemed to be headed for a future as a stable and prosperous democracy. Since the 1970s, however, the country has been torn by violent struggles between the two main ethnic groups, Sinhalese and Tamils that make up its population. Sri Lanka suffered severe damage and loss of life from the tsunami of 2004; what effect that disaster will have on the country’s political future remains to be seen.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival – Negombo

Arrival at the Colombo Airport Clients will be met by our English speaking driver guide and airport staff and offer assistance by Eastbound Sri Lanka
Afterwards immediate transfer to hotel in Negombo,
Check in at the hotel.

Negombo is a modest beach town located close to Bandaranaike International Airport. With a stash of decent hotels and restaurants to suit all pockets, a friendly local community, Negombo is a much easier place to get your Sri Lankan feet than Colombo. The Dutch captured the town from the Portuguese in 1640, lost it, and then captured it again in 1644. The British then took it from them in 1796 without a struggle. Negombo was one of the most important sources of cinnamon during the Dutch era, and there are still reminders of the European days.

Day 2(195 km – 03 hours) Negombo – Pinnawala elephant orphanage – Sigiriya rock fortress

After breakfast proceed to Sigiriya, En route visit Pinnawala elephant orphanage.
Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage was started in 1975 to house abandoned and wounded elephants. The sanctuary covers 25 acres of lush vegetation with an approximate population of about 77 consisting of both adult and baby elephants. The best time to visit is the feeding time and the bathing time; when all the elephants are taken to the river close by.

Afterwards proceed to Sigiriya, Check in at the hotel in the afternoon
After having lunch visit Sigiriya rock fortress.
Sigiriya is home to the 5th century "Fortress in the sky" which is the most fantastic single wonder of the island. On its summit are the foundations of what was once a great and sumptuous palace and garden complete with a swimming pool. On one of the stairways the only known ancient work of Sinhala secular painting survived in the form of frescoes of life sized damsels in all the freshness and delicacy of their original color.

Return to the hotel in the evening.

Day 3(150 km – 03 hours) Sigiriya – Hiriwadunna village trek - Polonnaruwa sight seeing

After breakfast proceed to Polonnaruwa for sightseeing of the ancient city. En route visit Hiriwadunna for a village trek.
The Hiriwadunna village in Habarana offers a unique village safari for tourists. Any traveler wanting to gain an insight in to the daily lives of the locals in this village can participate on their own volition in excursions, adventure safaris, agro tourism, night camping and Jeep safaris. Hiriwadunna is just 02 Km (05 minutes - drive from Habarana. The village trek begins with an awesome walk along a bund of a Wewa or manmade reservoir. The reservoir itself, the surrounding scrub jungle, marshland and village are a hive of early morning or an evening activity. The amazing birdlife, butterflies and possible sightings of crocodile only add to the charm of seeing the villagers as they go about their early morning tasks of fishing, or washing clothes at the periphery of the lake.
Afterwards proceed to Polonnaruwa to watch ancient city.
Polonnaruwa-king Parakramabahu reign is considered as the golden age of Polonnaruwa. It was his reign that is considered the Golden Age of Polonnaruwa, when trade and agriculture flourished under the patronage of the King, who was adamant that no drop of water falling from the heavens was to be wasted, and each be used toward the development of the land; hence, irrigation systems far superior to those of the Anuradhapura Age were constructed during Parakramabahu reign, systems which to this day supply the water necessary for paddy cultivation during the scorching dry season in the east of the country. The greatest of these systems, of course is the Parakrama Samudraya or the Sea of Parakrama, a tank so vast that it is often mistaken for the ocean.

Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 4(125 km – 03 hours) Sigiriya – Dambulla cave temple – Spice garden Matale - Kandy

After breakfast proceed to Kandy.

Dambulla is famous for the five cave Temples on a rock. The first 03 caves are better, older and larger than the other two. Some caves dates to 1st C.B.C. All the 5 cave walls and ceilings are covered with Buddhist murals and there are more than 130 Buddha statues, statues of Gods and Kings are also found here.

Spice garden Matale in Sri Lanka has long been renowned for its spices. Since ancient times, traders from all over the world who came to Sri Lanka brought their native cuisines to the island, resulting in a rich diversity of cooking styles and techniques. Sri Lankan people use spices liberally in their dishes and typically do not follow an exact recipe. In Here you will learn about fragrant clove, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, mace and pepper, and many other favorites such as chocolate and vanilla.

After reaching Kandy check in at the hotel in the afternoon.
In evening witness the cultural show and end the day by visiting temple of tooth relic.

Kandy cultural show – Sri Lanka, a country rich with culture & tradition offers a very vibrant and unique show of Sri Lankan traditional dances, in the form of Kandy cultural show. The beat a dancing from "Salupliya" depicting several demons, "Thelme" vibrant expression of low country rhythm, Fire and Harvest dances accompanied by Ceremonial Drums and the Drum Orchestra rising and falling to the lively tempo. As many as 12 different folk and traditional dances are performed by Kandy lake club dance troop within the span of one hour.

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic ever since 4th Century A.D, when the Buddha's Tooth was brought to Sri Lanka hidden from sacrilegious hands in an Orissan princess's hair, the Relic has grown in repute and holiness in Sri Lanka and throughout the Buddhist world. It is considered Sri Lanka's most prized possession.

Return to the hotel in the evening.

Day 5(120 km – 4.30 hours) Kandy – Nuwara Eliya sightseeing

Afterwards breakfast enjoy a city tour including arts and craft center, Botanical garden, and Kandy Market and Kandy View point (Kandy View point is where you get to see the perfect panoramic view of the Kandy City)
Kandy - the laidback capital of the hill country, and the historical bastion of Buddhist power, is built around a peaceful lake and set in a picturesque bowl of hills. Today it is the center of Buddhism, Arts, Crafts and Culture.
Afterwards visit Peradeniya botanical garden.

Royal Botanical Gardens Peradeniya 147acres in extent; Started in 1374 as a pleasure garden of the Kings of Kandy. There are more than 5000 species of trees and plants. Some rare and endemics as well as flora from the tropical World Spice Garden and Orchid House are popular with tourists. Afterwards proceed to Nuwara Eliya.
On the way stop at Ramboda Falls and visit the Mack woods Tea Factory & enjoy a refreshing cup of Tea while take in the panoramic beauty of Mack woods tea plantation at Labukelle and enjoy a short walk in the tea fields.

After reaching Nuwara Eliya enjoy a city tour.
Nuwara Eliya Surrounded by hills and tea plantations, the town of Nuwara Eliya enjoys spring-like weather throughout the year. A favorite retreat of the British during colonial times, the town is dotted with English country style houses and half-timbered bungalows, with names like Sun hill Cottage or Windsor Hotel. No surprise it’s earned the name "Little England". The Holy Trinity Church might have stepped out of any village in England, with its Gothic architecture and eclectic collection of memorials, while the “pink post office” features a clock tower. The Grand Hotel, Hill Club and Golf Club also hark back to a previous era, where tea by a log fire, overlooking the lawns with topiary and roses, might be followed by a spot of billiards.

Day 6 Nuwara Eliya – Horton Plains - Colombo

Early morning enjoy a nature walk at Horton plains, world’s End and trek up to Bakers falls with packed breakfast

Horton Plains the highest plateau at 7000ft (2134 meters) is a National Park, visited by tourists and a large number of Sri Lanka tourists The Patnas in the lower parts, rising from the Marshes and streams extend up to the tree-line. The trees, stunted by the wind and mist, covered with ‘Sphagnum moss ‘ or old man’s beard, and the jungle is full of rare and endemic plants. The red flowered Rhododendrons, or the ‘Niloos’ that blooms once in 12 years, and the Butterflies, Birds, found only in the hill areas, the ‘Bear Monkey,’ large herds of Sambhur, Leopard and other animals are found in the plains. The ‘World End’ and ‘Little World End” with sheer drops of 3000ft to the plantation below and the beautiful scenery, are not found anywhere else in the country.
After having lunch at a local restaurant proceed to Colombo. Check in at the hotel in the evening.

Day 7 Colombo city tour – Departure transfer

After breakfast enjoy a city tour in Colombo
Colombo the largest and most industrial city on the island, Colombo was once the political capital of Sri Lanka but is now the unofficial commercial capita. With a resident population of about 647, 100, Colombo - that is located on the West Coast - is vibrant, colorful, constantly busy, its buildings largely corporate, with entertainment and education centers scattered in between. Architecture is a mixed affair in Colombo, with remnant structures from the bygone colonial era co-existing with tall skyscrapers and other such large buildings that dot the skyline.

Afterwards departure transfer to the air port
